The Alabama Association of Nonprofits (AAN) announced today the support of Governor Robert Bentley in proclaiming November as Nonprofit Awareness Month celebrating the economic, cultural and community impact of Alabama's nonprofit sector.

Alabama's nonprofit sector is comprised of more than 21,000 charitable organizations employing more than 227,000 Alabamians. The mission of the Alabama Association of Nonprofits during the month of November is to celebrate these organizations while recognizing those who impact their communities through volunteerism.

The Alabama Association of Nonprofits is partnering with its more than 592 members, corporate partners and communities around the state to promote November's designation and to encourage participation in celebrating the sector's successes. Organizations are encouraged to work with local media to share stories of success, inform their supporters of the importance of the sector in economic and community development and work with municipal governments to issue similar proclamations illustrating the community's dependence on the nonprofit sector.
